Pause for Yourself! |

Men-in-Pause, Inc. intends to address the public health issue of healthcare disparities
in the United States among lower income males, which encompasses African Americans, Hispanics,
American Indians, and Alaska Natives. This issue affects all of us in various
ways either directly or indirectly. Most of us have a family member, friend or co-worker who is terminally ill or is suspected
of having a life threatening disease such as Cancer, HIV/AIDS, or Diabetes, which cannot be treated due to their socioeconomic
status or as it is often suggested a language barrier. It is a known fact that
health disparities exist in access, treatment, outcomes, and health status in the United States. Men-in-Pause does not
exist to question poor health statistics, but rather decrease and some day dissolve them.
Research shows that: “Low-income Americans run the highest risk of being uninsured. In 1999, 42.6 million people lacked health insurance, and the numbers have increased
in years since. Among minority groups, Hispanics are the least likely to have
health insurance (34.3% uninsured), followed by American Indians and Alaska Natives (27.1% uninsured) based on a 3-year average
(1997-1999). Numerous studies over the past two decades have documented racial
and ethnic differences in care for heart conditions. The strongest studies provide
credible evidence that African Americans are less likely than whites to receive diagnostic procedures, revascularization procedures
and thrombolytic therapy...”[i]
